The American Petroleum Institute (API) is making publicly available online for the first time more than 160 safety standards. Once changes to the API Web site are complete, a total of 160 standards — some of which apply to other oil and gas activities, such as hydraulic fracturing and pipeline safety standards — will be available online. The standards will include all regulations that have been adopted by reference in federal regulations and all standards that relate to safety. API’s Public Awareness Standard for Pipeline Operators (API 1162) was already available to the public before this announcement.

These standards will be available as "read only" access. Hardcopies and printable versions will continue to be available for purchase.
